“Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” – Proverbs 19:21 2. Here are a few verses to get you started: 1.

No matter what it is, remind yourself of some wise words from the One who has always been, and always will be, in control… It could be a health issue, a financial situation, or a rocky relationship. Maybe, as you start this new year, you’re facing a situation where you feel as helpless as a car skidding on ice. In those moments, I’m forced to step out of my self-reliance and remember my Savior who is far more powerful than myself. Then, something pops up, such as a patch of black ice, that throws me into a tail-spin. So often, I think I’ve got everything under control, MY control. So why am I telling you this random, chaotic story? Well, because it’s kind of a metaphor for my life, and maybe yours too. And as I pumped my breaks, by some miracle my car slowly came to a stop. My instructor’s words came flooding back to me: “pump your breaks.” So, I did just that.

I was paralyzed with fear until I remembered the lesson from driving school about this very situation. What was a very relaxing drive turned into full-blown chaos in less than two seconds. However, what I didn’t see coming was a patch of black ice that sent my far less-than-graceful 2004 Ford Explorer skidding across the road. I had taken this same drive many times and I was confident I knew where I was going and that I’d get there safely. A few years ago, I was driving myself and a friend home from a Super Bowl party.
